Specific Crane Operation Qualifications

Specific Crane Qualifications for Crane Operators

WorkSafe BC requires all employers to ensure that their crane operators are qualified and competent to use a specific type of equipment before they start work on that machine (including operators who hold a Full Scope Level A or Red Seal Certification for the associated crane type).

Being qualified means an operator has been instructed in how to use the specific equipment. Being competent means an operator has demonstrated how to safely operate, inspect, and maintain a specific machine.  Mistakes made by an operator unfamiliar with a crane or following the wrong operating procedures can result in serious incidents.

Fulford's Specific Crane Qualification Service

In order to be compliant with WorkSafe BC’s requirement that crane operators demonstrate that they can safely inspect, set-up and operate a specific crane make and model, Fulford has developed an assessment service to document your operators’ competency.

On-Site Practical Assessment
A Fulford assessor is dispatched to your site to assess your operator’s ability to complete your specific crane’s: load chart questions; pre-operational crane inspection; crane set-up; and operate the crane.

For Level B Provisional operators the assessment also includes Hand Signals and basic rigging questions, if a Level B Provisional operator is found not competent in any elements of the assessment, these areas will be noted for the employer to address  with specific training for the Level B Provisional operator.

Specific Crane Documentation:

The employer receives a digital copy of their operators’ assessment results as well as a summary report for each operator listing the specific cranes they have been successfully qualified to operate.
