Specific Crane Operation Qualifications

Specific Crane Qualifications for Crane Operators

WorkSafe BC requires all employers to ensure that their crane operators are qualified and competent to use a specific type of equipment before they start work on that machine (including operators who hold a Full Scope Level A or Red Seal  Certification for the associated crane type).

Being qualified means an operator has been instructed in how to use the specific equipment. Being competent means an operator has demonstrated how to safely operate, inspect, and maintain a specific machine.  Mistakes made by an operator unfamiliar with a crane or following the wrong operating procedures can result in serious incidents.

Fulford's Specific Crane Qualification Service

In order to be compliant with WorkSafe BC’s requirement that crane operators demonstrate that they can safely inspect, set-up and operate a specific crane make and model, Fulford has developed an assessment service to document your operators’ competency.

Load Chart Assessment
The service assesses your operators familiarity with your cranes’ load charts with an online load chart exam.

On-Site Practical Assessment
Once the load chart assessment is completed, a Fulford assessor is dispatched to your site to assess your operator’s ability to complete the pre-operational crane inspection, crane set-up and operate the crane.

Specific Crane Documentation:

The employer receives a digital copy of their operators’ assessment results as well as a summary report for each operator listing the specific cranes they have been successfully qualified to operate.

Cost:

The cost to complete the load chart and on-site practical assessments: $650 per crane type per operator.
