Training Course Overview
In BC, all work site owners or prime contractors are responsible for ensuring health and safety requirements are met on their job sites. This responsibility includes overseeing contractors are compliant with WorkSafeBC regulations. When crane services are subcontracted, the site representative is required to actively engage with the crane operator — and this course equips them to do exactly that.
The course includes a checklist to guide your coordination of boom truck crane safety and a reference manual explaining what you are checking, why it matters, and what WorkSafeBC regulations apply.
Duration:
One day (8 hours), delivered at your work site.
Location & Cost:
We train at your site. The maximum class size is 10 participants and the total cost is $3650.
Certification:
Participants who complete the course receive a Boom Truck Crane Safety Coordination Certificate of Completion from Fulford Certification, valid for three years.
Participants also leave with practical tools they can put to work immediately:
- A crane safety checklist to guide coordination of subcontracted boom truck crane services
- A reference manual explaining what you are checking, why it matters, and what WorkSafeBC regulations apply

Anyone responsible for overseeing subcontracted crane services on a work site — site representatives, supervisors, project coordinators, and safety personnel.

Site owners in BC carry the responsibility for health and safety compliance on their job sites, including the work of contractors. This course fits that need by giving site representatives the knowledge to confidently confirm that crane operations on their site are being conducted safely and in compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations.
Course Outline
Certification & Documentation:
- Confirming the operator is certified and riggers are qualified
- Verifying the crane has a valid inspection certificate, manual, load charts, and an up-to-date logbook
Pre-Lift Preparation:
- Determining if the lift is Critical, confirming there is a lift plan, and communicating the lift plan and coordination to all workers through the Tailboard meeting
- Confirming the load assessment is done, the crane is set up correctly, rigging is inspected, and the lift path is prepared
- Ensuring crane swing hazards and traffic are controlled
During the Lift:
- How to recognize when to immediately stop all lifting if there is:
- Something that looks unsafe or non-compliant
- A crane misadventure
- A close call
- Safe lifting practices: the operator should utilize a test lift; lifting is done with controlled movement; only hoist vertically; don’t lift over people; observe distance limits to high voltage equipment; control the load with tag lines; and secure the load when landed
Post Lift:
- Shut down procedure: stow boom, outriggers, pads and rigging; tie down hook block
