NOTE: Change to the Tower Crane Practical Assessment

As of AUGUST 1, 2025, the TOWER CRANE LOAD CHART & RIGGING Exam will be reinstated as part of the practical assessment for Skilled Trades BC

LOAD CHART & RIGGING Exam:  10 questions, 8 of which are based on tower crane load charts and 2 of which are based on rigging charts. Everything you need to answer the questions is provided including the crane load charts and jib rating charts. You do not need the crane manual or the complete load chart package to answer the questions. 

If your Practical Assessment for Tower Crane Operators is scheduled for August 1, 2025 or after, you will need to successfully complete this component*.

*The crane industry in BC has stated that operators must get a minimum of 7 out of 10 questions correct on the Load Chart & Rigging part of the assessment to be competent.

What's the process ?

The Assessment

The assessment has 3 parts.  The 10 question on-line exam takes 45 minutes. Parts 2 & 3 are done on your site  and take 2 – 2.5 hours to complete.

Location & Fees

We assess you on your site on any crane that is within the classification you applied for.  Cancellation and rescheduling fees apply if you are unable to attend your appointment. 

Crane & Site Requirements

Your crane must have a valid inspection certificate, log book and load chart. 

How do I prepare ?

Load Chart & Rigging Exam

The tower crane load chart and rigging exam is taken on-line. There are a total of 10 questions: 8 are crane specific load chart questions an 2 are rigging capacity chart questions
